Mark Nolan – Director

Mark is the Director and Founder of Align and has over 20 years of experience in management of approvals, compliance and land access in the resources sector including both private and government roles across New South Wales and Commonwealth jurisdictions.

He has managed contemporary approvals teams under tight deadlines, and has directed government relations teams, lawyers and the media relations, lawyers and the media through sensitive environmental, social and economic settings, including one of Australia’s most controversial approvals; the Warkworth Continuation Project. 

He has engaged and negotiated with Local, State and Commonwealth Governments including the NSW Planning Assessment Commission, State and Commonwealth departments and has NSW Land and Environmental Court experience.

Mark has provided expert guidance on Biodiversity Policy, Restoration Ecology, Rehabilitation Performance and Completion Criteria frameworks.

Mark has a long history of engagement with regulators. After 8 years working in the Environmental Sustainability Branch of the current “Resource Regulator”, he has continued these relationships whilst working with companies such as Rio Tinto, Yancoal and BHP. 

These strong relationships built on integrity and trust is what sets Mark apart from other consultants. Mark is known for his ability to simplify complex concepts so they can be easily interpreted by clients. Mark’s practical experience in the environmental field, proven work ethic, and friendly and approachable communication style emphasises his reputation for being reliable, conscientious and committed.
